The CD LABS Small Animal Retraction System simplifies set-up procedure and provides the examiner with an excellent overview of the operative site. It consists of three components: a base plate, magnetic fixators that are moveable anchors and retractors with various tips that can be used in either a static or dynamic configuration. The base plates are made from magnetic stainless steel and are available in two sizes: 20 cm x 30 cm, for mouse-size animals and 25 cm x 35 cm, for animals up to the size of a rabbit. The surface is non-reflective and both plates have a window in the center which allows the animal contact with body temperature control systems (such as FST Nos. 21060-00 or 21061-00). The window sizes are 10 cm x 13 cm and 15 cm x 25 cm respectively.
The fixators are made from anodized aluminum and incorporate a surgical grade rare earth magnet in the base allowing them to attach anywhere on the table. They provide an anchorage force of 350 grams.
The magnets do not interfere with lab electronics and can be used in close proximity (3 cm) to ferro-magnetic items. They incorporate push button activated spring locks that grip either a wire or elastic retractor body. Fixators are available in two sizes, a low profile 2.5 cm model with slots at two heights, or a 5 cm model with four height choices.
The operator can choose static retraction with a retractor wire or dynamic retraction with an elastomer and a range of interchangeable retractor tips in widths from 1 mm to 7.5 mm or a skin hook. The retractor tips are of light, flexible stainless steel and atraumatic to delicate tissue or membrane. All system components are steam autoclavable to 140° C (284° F).
